The Wedge

Our weekends are going to get really busy for the next few weeks, so we decided to have a little family field trip to the beach to check out the waves at the Wedge yesterday. Maddy woke up at 2L15 and we were on the road by 2:30. The traffic looked intimidating, but we made it through and found an awesome parking spot just a 10 minute walk from the part of the beach we wanted to get to. We got to the waves at about 4:15 and they were just amazing. There were bigger in the morning, but I was still pretty impressed. Johnny dressed Maddy, so she was wearing her finest. She was in a weird mood and wouldn't let me put her down or hand her off to Johnny, but I enjoyed the lovies. The pics don't really do the waves justice - some of them were apparently 15-20 feet.

Maddy's First Concert

If you don't count the Bob Marley concert we went to when I was 38 weeks pregnant, Maddy went to her first concert last weekend. Our neighborhood has concerts in the park and this particular one was a Neil Diamond cover band called Hot August Night. The singer of course wore is sequined shirt - thank goodness because we wouldn't have been able to see him otherwise! Maddy introduced herself to a set of twin 16 month old boys next to us, dishing out lots of hugs and kisses.

Miscellaneous Summer Stuff

I've got a bunch of pics to post from the past month or so. Maddy is napping a ton since she's still sick with pneumonia, so I'll use some of my free time to update her blog! She's in good spirits and having a great time when she's awake. She's been sleeping in until 10ish the last few days, so this morning I woke her up at 8 to get back on a somewhat normal schedule. I think since I let her sleep so much during the day she was having trouble staying asleep at night, so hopefully getting her back on schedule will give us all some more night sleep.

This pic is of Maddy putting her birthday gifts from Bob and Eileen Jones to use - at the same time! Lately she's been putting the hat on herself backwards and looking in her little mirror. Very cute.

Here are some pics from a playdate we hosted in June for our babies group. It was supposed to be a pool party but the weather was nasty so we just brought all of Maddy's toys out and played in the grass.

We had the Morrell Family over for a midday BBQ on Father's Day along with my Auntie Kikki and Kelly's boyfriend Phil.

We had a beach BBQ with the Jones family in Dana Point. Maddy hadn't been to the beach since her short Hawaii beach experience. We came armed with blankets, toys, books and crackers and had a really great time.

4th of July Weekend

Maddy has had a cold....pretty much since her birthday back in May. We had a good week and a half healthy during which we got her off of bottles and onto the sippy cups. It's been hard not giving in and giving her a bottle while she's been sick, but she's been handling it pretty well. Her pacifier seems to have taken the place of the bottles, but we'll start weaning her off the paci once this cold has completely passed.

Since she had a cold and a diaper rash on the 4th, we kept her out of the pool. She didn't want to play outside, so we sat inside for the most part and watched movies. She did have some fun with our friends Kristi and Kelli. The pushed her around in her radio flyer wagon and she was all smiles.

I put her to bed at about 5:30 so that she could sleep a bit before the fireworks. I woke her up at 8 or so and we walked up to the park. It was really dark, but Maddy had a blast. Dancing to the music, saying hi to everyone... she had no fear. She kept switching from my lap to Johnny's during the fireworks and half way through got bored of it and started searching my bag for snacks.

The next day the Morrell ladies stopped by for a quick visit. Maddy has a ton of 4th themed outfits, so we kept the holiday going all weekend.

Sunday night we met up with Johnny's parents and the Hawkins family for dinner at the country club. Still sick Maddy was a bit of a handful, but we had a great time.
